Building Safer Workplaces: Recognising World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2025
Today, April 28, marks World Day for Safety and Health at Work — a time to reflect on the importance of creating safe, healthy working environments for everyone, everywhere.
First launched by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2003, this global awareness day honours the many workers who have been injured, made ill, or lost their lives while simply doing their jobs. It also highlights the ongoing need for preventative action: to protect workers, strengthen safety cultures, and keep pace with an ever-evolving world of work.
The choice of date is no accident. April 28 has long been recognised as a day of remembrance and action, first by trade union movements in North America and later internationally. It symbolises a tribute to the past and a call to do better for the future.
Each year, the ILO selects a theme that reflects emerging challenges in occupational health and safety. In 2025, the theme is “Revolutionising health and safety: The role of AI and digitalisation at work.”. It highlights how technology is transforming our workplaces, offering new opportunities for safety management but also introducing new risks that businesses must navigate carefully.
Why This Matters More Than Ever
Workplace safety is no longer just about the physical protection of hard hats or warning signs. It’s about psychological safety, adapting to automation, using data responsibly, and making sure no one is left behind as industries evolve.
For businesses, that means a greater responsibility to understand these changes and respond proactively and not reactively.
But as the world of work becomes more complex, safety can start to feel overwhelming. Information overload, evolving regulations, emerging technologies… it’s a lot to keep up with.
And that’s exactly why we’re preparing something new.

Simplifying Safety: Coming Soon
We believe that safety shouldn’t feel complicated. It should be clear, practical, and easy to put into action.
That’s why we’re getting ready to launch our Simplifying Safety initiative, a new approach designed to cut through the noise and make it easier for businesses to create safer working environments. Built around real-world advice, practical support, and a fresh, straightforward voice.
Today reminds us why getting safety right matters and why making it simpler is more important than ever. You’ll start to see more very soon…
