Our priority
Circular economy means moving to renewable energy and materials. In doing so, we can decouple economic activity from the consumption of finite resources. This new resilient approach is good for not only businesses, but also people and the environment.
From 2020 to 2025 and beyond, we are making circular economy a priority to accelerate the development of integrated sustainable business solutions for our customers.
Our integration of a circular economy will help us achieve our sustainable goals. It is also a response to increasing customer demand for integrated sustainable business products, solutions and practices.
Eliminating waste
Across the globe, the standard current economy uses natural resources and, eventually, turns them into waste. At Lyreco, we believe in challenging this linear process. In a circular economy, we will stop waste from being produced.
Its three driving principles are:
- Eliminate waste and pollution
- Circulate products and materials (at their highest value)
- Regenerate nature
OUR Targets and commitments
By committing to the following, Lyreco will help its customers drastically reduce non-recyclable waste in the workplace and, ultimately, reduce their impact on the environment.
We are continually looking to introduce new recycling services for our customers.
100% of our product families will have at least one ‘recycle-ready’ item by 2025
…or products made from materials that can be re-inserted into the end-to-end value chain criteria for recyclability
100% of total packaging weight used for shipping is recyclable or reusable or compostable by 2025.
Provide end-of-life collection and process used materials back into the manufacturing chain.
Collect 15% of sold recycled-ready products for recycling by 2025.
30% or more of our plastic packaging will come from recycled plastic by 2025.
Maintaining our zero waste to landfill for all of our sites.
5% reduction in total waste (tonne per pound of turnover) year on year.
How we’re doing, so far
Commitment is all well and good, but Lyreco wants to show not only what we’re actually doing, but also the results of what we’re doing.
Compostable/Degradable Products
In 2021, 849 of our products were defined as compostable/degradable.
Plastic-Free
Lyreco is working with Telford Council to set up a Plastic-Free Community accreditation set up by Surfers Against Sewage.
