Empowering Change Together: Lyreco’s Sustainability and Social Value Team

As we step into 2024, it’s a moment of reflection and anticipation for Lyreco’s Sustainability and Social Value Team. Their journey thus far has been marked by significant milestones, achievements, and the continuous pursuit of making a positive impact on society and the environment.

Reflecting on 2023: A Year of Meaningful Impact

The past year was a landmark one for the team, marked by the publication of Lyreco’s inaugural Social Value Report. This report, certified by TOMs, was a testament to the team’s dedication and efforts, setting a new standard for transparency and accountability in the industry. The reported highlighted an impressive £79 million in social value, showcasing the tangible impact of their initiatives on society.

The team also proudly introduced 6 new suppliers to the 2023/24 Supplier Support Programme (SSP) signifying a major step toward a more sustainable supply chain, reinforcing the team’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

Lyreco’s leadership in sustainability was further acknowledged with the BOSS Environmental Leadership Award, a proud achievement that highlights their dedication to eco-friendly practices.

The team’s achievements are a clear reflection of their commitment to sustainability and social value. Achieving Disability Confidence Level 3 was a significant milestone that reflects Lyreco’s inclusive and supportive work environment.

Andrew Bryers, Head of Sustainability, states, “Sustainability and social value impacts everyone. Being part of Lyreco’s Sustainability and Social Value Team offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of change and to collaborate with multiple stakeholders on diverse projects that make a real difference. Moreover, we are supported by a company that recognises its impact, backed by colleagues across the business who are committed to our mission.”

Embracing 2024: New Beginnings and Ongoing Excellence

The year ahead is filled with promise and ambition. The team is enthusiastic about forming new charity partnerships, which will enable them to expand their impact to more communities. A major highlight will be hosting the first Community in Practice event in person, promoting collaboration and the sharing of best sustainability practices.

The team is also in the running for the EDI Sustainability Award for their innovative river freight project, underscoring their commitment to reducing carbon footprint and leading the way in sustainable transport solutions. They have set an ambitious goal to ensure that 90% of Lyreco’s sales come from sustainable products by 2026, a target they are diligently working towards with their valued suppliers.

Chloe Andrews, Customer Sustainability Manager, reflects, “Being part of Lyreco’s Sustainability and Social Value Team is a privilege. Every day is unique and offers opportunities to drive positive change for people and the planet. Having met so many inspiring customers of Lyreco, I am looking forward to a busy 2024, empowering changemakers across various sectors.”

Introducing New Talents and Perspectives

2024 also welcomes Emily Bell to the team, who transitions from another role within Lyreco. Emily’s passion and fresh perspectives are invaluable as the team continues on their mission. The launch of the Lyreco Goodness campaign marks a pivotal moment, symbolizing past achievements and laying the groundwork for future endeavours.

Emily Bell, the new Sustainability Officer, shares, “Joining Lyreco’s Sustainability and Social Value Team this year has sparked a deep sense of purpose within me. I am wholeheartedly dedicated to contributing to our progressive and collaborative approach, engaging with internal departments, suppliers, and customers. It’s more than just a career move; it’s a commitment to making a meaningful difference in the world.”

As the team moves forward, they are filled with optimism and determination. The road ahead may present challenges, but with the collective efforts of the team, partners, and the broader Lyreco community, they are poised to continue making significant strides in sustainability and social value. Their unwavering commitment to positive transformation ensures that the path forward is not only greener but also more inclusive, setting the stage for a future where both people and the planet thrive together.
