Fall Protection

Harnesses, Blocks, Lanyards

& More

Fall protection and restraint equipment is vitally important in a range of working in environments, most notably construction.

Fall protection is the planned system put into place for workers when there is a risk; of a fall from height, whilst working near any edge, near a pit or hole, or performing work on a steep surface, to eliminate the risk of potential injury.

The Working at Height Regulation 2005

The Working at Height Regulation 2005 set out requirements for the management of risks from working at height. These regulations apply to all employers, and self employed persons responsible for work at height and as such it is their responsibility to ensure that adequate precautions and provision of equipment are in place to allow for working at height safely.

Fall Arrest Blocks, Fall Arrest Lanyards

Fall Arrest Blocks – When required to work at height, a fall arrest block is an effective way of arresting a fall. An Arrester block works by the braking mechanism deploying in the event of a fall meaning the rope is held fast and the user’s harness, which is attached to the arrester block, fall no further.

Lanyards – A fall arrest lanyard ensures a worker’s descent will be stopped before hitting the floor or platform below. Fall arrest lanyards must be selected and positioned in accordance with the requirements of the task to limit the distance a worker can fall – this will reduce the impact of the fall for the worker.

Connectors & Anchorage Devices

Different types of anchors are available, and they vary by industry, building type, type of job or installation, and structure. Typical types of anchor systems for fall protection include:

  • Permanent anchors are permanently installed for fall protection as an integral part of the building or structure (e.g., roof anchors on high-rise buildings). These anchors are designed according to a specific load and design parameters.
  • Temporary or moveable anchors are designed to be connected to a structure using specific installation instructions such as nail-on anchors often used by roofers, wire rope slings, synthetic webbing slings, beam clamps, beams sliders etc
