Sustainable communities are a big part of our Lyreco Goodness initiative, from local to global causes.
At Lyreco UK and Ireland, we support a multitude of charities. This year our Ireland Office and Distribution centre has chosen to support the Dublin based charity, Pieta, Ireland’s national charity for the prevention of suicide.
Pieta provides free counselling to those with suicidal ideation, those engaging in self-harm, and those bereaved by suicide. Staff are fully qualified and provide a professional one-to-one therapeutic service.
Pieta operates in 20 locations across Ireland and employs over 250 therapists and support staff who help those most in need of Pieta’s services.
Sadly, the demand for the service is increasing. In 2021 Pieta managed:
Over 70,000 crisis support calls and texts through their 24 freephone helpline.
They directly supported over 600 households devastated by the loss of a loved one through suicide.
They delivered over 52 hours of intervention and bereavement counselling.
Pieta’s three main pillars of practice are prevention, intervention, and postvention.
- Pieta’s prevention services include The Resilience Academy and the Amber Flag.
These are awareness driving initiatives that aim to instil and empower young people with coping mechanisms in the hopes of preventing them from potentially incurring suicidal or self-harm thoughts in the future.
- Pieta’s intervention model is their suicidal ideation and self-harm counselling therapy.
The strength-based and solution-focused method includes up to twelve sessions of free counselling, initially twice a week, which will provide clients with a new perspective on the problems they’re experiencing now.
- Postvention practice is their Suicide Bereavement service.
Pieta provide free counselling, therapy, and support to those who have been bereaved by suicide. Suicide Bereavement Liaison Officers offer support within 8 weeks of a death by suicide and Suicide Bereavement Counselling from 8 weeks on.
Here at Lyreco, we continually put mental health and well-being high on the agenda, recognising that we can work towards a world with good mental health for all.
We are very proud to be supporting Pieta and their work to ensuresuicide, self-harm and the stigma surrounding is replaced by hope, self-care, and acceptance.
Pieta is 80% funded by the public and we hope with our support and fundraising, we can help raise positive awareness for this important cause to support the outstanding work Pieta does for those in our communities and beyond.
